Segment #1 The Role of Caregiver with Carol Bradley Bursack Segment #2 HPV & Cervical Cancer with Dr. Marie Savard
October 13, 2008

Segment 1: The Role of Caregiver Our society is aging – no news there. Because of better health care in our country it is not uncommon to hear of people living well into their 80’s and longer. But who is taking care of these people? More and more we hear of adult children taking on the role of caregiver for an aging parent. But what does that mean to be a caregiver? And what does this do to your life? Joining Philip and Lisa is the author of Minding Our Elders, Carol Bradley Bursack. Carol has over 20 years of care giving experience will of her insight into what care givers can expect and what they can do to take care of themselves. For more information about Carol go to www.mindingourelders.com

Segment 2: Detecting HPV the Cause of Cervical Cancer Recently Lisa has a cervical cancer scare and ended up going through months of worry and a painful and invasive colposcopy (biopsy of the cervix) all for nothing, and she is not alone. Woman across the country are undergoing unnecessary procedures based on, the not uncommon, false positive PAP test. On the flip side, cervical cancer is going undetected 20% of the time because of false negatives. There is a much better test out there that is more accurate and once a woman gets a negative result does not have to be tested for 3 more years. So why is the medical community and the insurance companies so unwilling to adopt this test as the first line of care? Good Question. Dr. Marie Savard, a gynecologist and ABC News health correspondent will talk about the HPV test that every woman should have after the age of 30. For more information about Dr. Savard go to www.drsavard.com or information about the HPV test go to www.QIAGEN.com
